Let’s Recycle Book 3

Over the past two books we have addressed different components of your child’s holistic development to help you better prepare your child for formal schooling.

These activity books are aligned with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF). The NCF identifies six Early Learning Developmental Areas (ELDAs), that should be used as guidelines when planning activities according to the children’s age and stage of development. Should you want more information about this, head over to our website and download Book 1 and 2 of the B4G Special Edition 5 series.

Although the activities in this book are based on the NCF aims, they provide a therapeutic outlook on stimulation and therefore it is still very important that your child attends an ECD centre where many opportunities are provided for your child to learn. It is our hope that with the combination of the therapeutic and teaching outlook, your child will develop and master certain skills so that he/she can cope in school.

Remember, each child develops at his or her own pace and has different things that he or she is good at. It is important that you spend as much times as possible with your child to play, teach and motivate. Show your children how exciting it is to learn something new.

At this age children learn best through play. This book gives you many different ideas of how you can use household items and play to help your child to learn and develop according to the standards of the NCF.
On the next page you will see that each ELDA has an icon. These icons will be used to show you which area is being focused on during an activity. The main ELDA will be in a big flag next to the activity.

This book will show you how to use things you have around your house. If you do not have something that is needed for an activity, make a plan and find something that will work.. For example, if you do not have paper, let your child draw in the sand. Be creative and problem solve! You may even come up with better ideas than we had!

If your child finds an activity too difficult, do the activity from the younger age group. You can also make it easier by helping more. If your child finds an activity too easy, do the activity from the older age group or help less.

Do the activities over and over, that is how your child will learn the best. Be patient Listen to your child, Praise your child.

HAVE FUN LEARNING TOGETHER THROUGH PLAY!
